My Garden

23rd March 2007

Hmm, how are my seeds doing? Shall we have a peek...

Yeah they're doing great. The Cosmos and Morning Glory have gone mental and I've had to repot them already.

The Sweetpeas are also doing good, the ones on the right seem to be much stronger than the ones on the left, they are a different variety though. The Echinecea isn't doing much but it did say that there was a long gestation period on the packet.

I couldn't stop myself and I've put in some Sunflower seeds & chillies which I saved from last years batch in the freezer. They're not doing much yet.

7th March 2007

Well the new season is beginning and I'm all pumped up and ready to go. It's not looking bad in the garden as spring has sprung. The Camellia has flowered and there is a carpet of pink under and around it. Oddly enough the chickens quite like eating the fallen petals. Each to their own I suppose. The daffodils have also been pinging open and adding a lovely brightness to the garden.

I've been busy since coming back from Borneo and have been getting the veg ready.

I decided to grow onions this year because I thought it might be something that the chickens wouldn't eat, plus I had a plan to grow a curry plot. Yes, I said curry. The plan was to grow all the ingredients we would need for a curry. So, onions, tomatoes, coriander, garlic. I'm not sure if it's still going to happen yet but we'll see how it all goes.

I know it's a little odd to grow onions in bog rolls but it's all about getting stuff strong before unleashing the chickens onto them

Carrotts

I've also sown some carrots in the pot. I'm not expecting them to grow to be honest, mainly because the packet says best before 2005 on them and also everyone has told me how difficult it is to grow carrotts.

Oh, and I'm also growing them in a pot just to totally freak them out!!

I do love eating carrots though so fingers crossed that something will grow.

I'm also going to grow a load of herbs this year. I planted parsley last week and so far nothing's peaking out but I'll keep you up to date with it's progress.

  Sweetpeas

These little beauties are my sweetpeas. I only planted them last week (3 March) and they're already sprouting out. I love sweetpeas but the usually get eaten by something. We've got millions of hungry slugs in our garden. Little bastards!

The plan of action is to get them good and strong before they go out, plant them nearer the house (snails live near the back in the compost) and plant lots so even if they eat 10 plants I'll still have plenty left.

Various

This little lot on the left are Cosmos, Echinecea and morning glory. Again I only planted them last week and already the cosmos and morning glory are growing. I love it! Eager little monkeys! As Alan Titchmarsh would say "they want to grow"

I'm not sure what the plant below is. I bought the corms before I went away and threw out the packet, I'm hoping it will be nice surprise!
